Specifically in regard to mental health, my credentials
for presenting expert evidence are as follows:
1. 1957-1964

Qualified as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN),
and worked for some years as a Staff Nurse across all mental health specialities
2. 1972-1975

DHSS Research Fellow based in the Department of
Nursing at the University of Manchester to carry out the following
research project: 'To describe the role of the nurse
working in a District General Hospital Psychiatric Unit'
3. 1974

WHO 'Nurse/Buro Fellowship': To visit Psychiatric
Units in Poland in order to carry out a cross-cultural comparison
4. 1975-1986
Whilst Head of Nursing Studies at Manchester
Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University), ran the first
Community Psychiatric Nursing course in the United
Kingdom
5. 1979

Secretary of State appointment as the Nurse Member
of a multi-disciplinary group, to advise the Secretary of
State in regard to: 'An evaluation of the working methods of a
particular YTC in providing control, treatment and
education for disturbed young people'

6. 1981

Established the Centre for Research into Psychiatric
Nursing (CRIPN) at Manchester Polytechnic, to promote
research into this area - CRIPN was the only national
centre for psychiatric nursing research at that time.

Author-in-Chief of the first textbook on Community Psychiatric Nursing: 'Community Psychiatric Nursing - Caring for the Mentally Ill and Handicapped in the Community', Churchill Livingston

b. 1991
Editor of 'The Care Assistant's Guide to Working with Elderly Mentally Infirm People', Hawker Publications
8. Appointments include the following:
President of the Mental Health Nurses Association (MHNA)
9. Research Supervisor to 4 post-graduate students
